When snow falls, nature listens.

And by nature, I mean us McLeans. What could be more perfect than enjoying the first snowfall of the season, together as a family, snuggled up all warm and cozy in our little home?

As you native "Norfolkians" know, the chance of seeing much snowfall in the Hampton Roads area is quite slim. Last year, we had quite the deluge of rainfall and subsequent flooding throughout the winter months, and only once did we receive a minor dusting of snow. Due to this disappointing track-record in the snow department, the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed snow day together, with no one away at work, was a special treat.

In the afternoon, I took a brief break from my cup of hot cocoa and our Mad Men marathon to play with my new camera out in the snow. However, this didn't last long, as 15 minutes into it, I dropped my gloves into a large puddle, and my already chilled fingers began to rapidly go numb. Not the best start. Anyhow, I'm not promising anything mind-blowing here, but below are a few shots I captured from our lazy afternoon together, and my outdoor photography adventure. Enjoy...and stay warm! :)

The best part of my cozy snow day at home: spending it with my cute little pup and my extremely dreamy husband.
Two of my favorite things for keeping warm. In addition to my hubby of course. ;-)
Special mugs are a must for snow day hot cocoa! These adorable little guys (personalized with our initials) were a very special gift (came in a set of four, each touting a different season) from my best friend, Lydia, for our wedding last year.  I will treasure them always!
Healthy and delicious, our homemade snow day snack of choice was guacamole!
All dressed for the outdoors and some picture taking in the snow!

I love the rustic, cottage-feel of this fence.

This home (correction: MANSION) in our neighborhood is absolutely gorgeous. I especially love the effect of the ornaments hung from the trees.

The mermaid is Norfolk's city icon. There are dozens scattered throughout the city. This one is located downtown in Harbor Park.

Just in case you were wondering, this is how Bear spent his snow day. Curled up on the pillow in our bed. Love this little guy.
In honor of this post centered on the weather, I shall leave you with a quote just suited to the occassion -- and quite true to boot. ;-)

"Don't knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn't start a conversation if it didn't change once in a while." ~Kin Hubbard

Aww, I love that you love those mugs, I thought they were so special. ♥ And spicy cocoa sounds yum right now!

Love your snow pics with the new cam, especially the mansion - er, I mean, my summer cottage.
