This past weekend, we took a break from packing to head to Charlotte for our first, real, house-hunting trip. However, prior to leaving town Friday, Chris and I attended a special "Hail and Farewell" ceremony in his honor, held on base at the Officers Club.
Chris's (now former) CO publicly recognized his many achievements and honored his hard work at his command. He was presented with a special plaque of appreciation and a picture signed by every member of his command. I was (and shall always be) so proud to be the wife of this accomplished Naval Officer, and it did my heart good to hear the many shared words of affirmation toward my husband.
As I was sitting in a little bit of an awkward spot during the ceremony, my pictures aren't the most fabulous -- however, something is always better than nothing. :)
While it was time to say "farewell" to the Navy, it was also time to say "hail" to Chris's exciting, new career at Celgard. On our way into Charlotte, we made pit stops at the company's two locations, and Chris's future home of employment! :)
The company's main location is on the south side of Charlotte, nestled within a very scenic business park.
Their second location -- which to me appears to be twice the size (reflecting this company's outstanding growth in the last few years) -- is located in Concord, NC (just outside of Charlotte) and is under construction, slated to open sometime in early summer.
Today Chris arrived home from the base with his DD 214 form in hand! For those of you currently or formerly in the military, you know what this means. He is officially -- and most important, honorably! -- discharged from the Navy! :) The next step will be entering the Selective Reserves (all servicemen/women are required to do so after leaving Active Duty), but that won't take place for several months.
